Man gets prison term for check forgery

FONDA — The multi-year prison term handed down to a Connecticut man in Montgomery County Court this week will be served at the same time as a sentence meted out in Fulton County Court last week.
That's according to a spokesperson for the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, who said William E. Brice Jr. , 59, of 64 S. Bellevale St., Monroe, Conn., was sentenced on March 24 before Montgomery County Court Judge Felix Catena to one and a third to four years in state prison in connection with his June 30, 2005, forgery of a check in the town of Amsterdam. He pleaded guilty on Jan. 18 to a charge of second-degree forgery.
In addition to the prison time, Brice also is to make restitution in the amount of $6,081 and payment of a $270 surcharge.
He was sentenced in Fulton County Court late last week to two to six years in state prison for stealing the identity of a Vermont man and forging checks in his name.
The identity of the victim was stolen after his briefcase was taken from his vehicle while on a business trip in Connecticut in May 2003. Over the following two years, the man's identity was used for multiple purchases throughout New England and in Fulton, Montgomery and Rennselaer counties.
Brice is reportedly serving time in a Connecticut prison for forgeries and thefts using the victim's identity there.

The DA's Office noted that Leovster Chandler, 39, of 28 North St., Gloversville, was allegedly in possession of cocaine and his ability was impaired by alcohol on that date.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 30, at which time he's supposed to get two years in state prison with two years post-release supervision and payment of a $350 fine.
* A Fort Plain resident, Stephen C. St. John, 26, of 5 Douglass St., was sentenced on March 20 to one to three years in state prison, a $3,000 fine and a $295 surcharge for a June 13 incident in the town of Minden. He pleaded guilty on Sept. 5 to felony driving while intoxicated in connection with that incident.
